About OTCalculator
OTCalculator is a free, privacy-first tool that helps American workers and employers calculate overtime pay accurately. We cover all 50 US states plus Washington D.C., implementing both federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) rules and state-specific overtime requirements.
Our mission
Wage and hour violations cost American workers billions of dollars every year. A 2017 study by the Economic Policy Institute estimated that minimum wage violations alone steal $15 billion annually from workers. Overtime violations add billions more.
We built OTCalculator to give workers a clear, accurate tool to:
- Calculate the exact overtime pay they're entitled to
- Understand the laws that protect them
- Identify when they may be owed back wages
- Take action if their employer isn't paying correctly
What makes us different
- State-aware calculations. Most calculators only handle federal rules. We implement California's daily OT and double time, Alaska's daily threshold, Colorado's 12-hour rule, Massachusetts retail Sundays, and dozens of other state-specific provisions.
- No signup, no tracking. Calculations happen entirely in your browser. We don't store your wage data, share it, or sell it.
- Plain-English education. We explain complex labor law concepts without legalese.
- Always free. No paywalls, no premium tiers, no upsells.
How we keep information accurate
We update our calculators and guides regularly based on:
- Official US Department of Labor sources
- State labor commissioner publications
- Recent regulatory changes (e.g., 2024 FLSA salary threshold updates)
- Peer review by employment law professionals
